What are single vision lenses?

exactFit single vision lenses give you a wider peripheral view and 360° visual comfort no matter the task. Single vision lenses have one vision correction (near or distance) that covers the entire lens.

This differs from progressive lenses that correct for 3 distances in one lens. Single vision lenses are ideal for close-range activities like reading or using the computer, and/or providing sharp focus for distant viewing activities, like watching a movie in a theater.

Common Issues Related To Single Vision

Nearsightedness

Also known asmyopia, and commonly diagnosed in children. If you are nearsighted, you can see clearly when looking at objects that are close, like a tablet, but you can’t see far-away objects such as a TV. Aprescription will usually have a - sign in front of the correction.

Myopia and children

Myopia can occur in children as early as birth and is progressing faster than in previous generations. Early treatment plans can minimize the effects. FYidoctors can prescribe and provide myopia control lenses and technology to help reduce its progression. Book an eye exam to discuss with your doctor.

Farsightedness

Also known as hyperopia. Your eyes strain more when viewing near objects. You can’t see objects that are up close like a book, but you may be able to see distant objects, like road signs, clearly. This prescription will usually have a + sign in front of the correction.

Presbyopia

As we age, our eyes change, and the eye lens is not as elastic as it once was. This makes it difficult to see at varying distances; most notably reading fine print when your lenses correct for distance. If you’re having difficulty reading menus, seeing in low light or starting to hold your phone out in front of you to read, it’s time for an eye exam. A single vision lens may be recommended, but more likely an office or progressive lens.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism occurs when your cornea or lens is not completely spherical which causes blurry vision (that can potentially affect your vision at all distances). . This is a common eye condition detected during an eye exam. A patient with astigmatism will have a prescription with a CYL correction (the lens power) and an AXIS correction (a value between 0 and 180 degrees) to correct the distortion they see. If a patient prefers contact lenses, your doctor will usually prescribe a TORIC lens (this is to correct the astigmatism).

At FYidoctors, we offer 2 different single vision lens options that cater to different prescriptions, lifestyles and budget. Your optometrist will determine which lens is the best option for you during your comprehensive eye exam.
Wearing different glasses for different corrections will not harm your eyes. However, switching between two pairs is not only inconvenient, but impossible during activities like driving. To experience clear, comfortable and convenient vision, your doctor may recommend progressive or office lenses for multiple prescriptions.
If you’re experiencing blurriness for one distance (either near or far) it’s best to book an appointment. Your optometrist will determine which lens is the best option for you during your comprehensive eye exam.
The simple answer is yes, but (there’s a “but”!), depending on your prescription, you’ll need additional measurements from an optician. Online lenses do not include as-worn measurements, like an OC height (stronger prescriptions or SEG height (for progressives), and cannot be tailored to the frame of choice. This can affect visual clarity and comfort.
Yes! But a contact lens prescription is different from a spectacle prescription. A contact lens sits on your eye, whereas glasses sit in front of it, so a doctor not only adjusts the actual correction but ensures that your eyeball responds well to the contact lens. This requires a separate exam and prescription from your doctor. Once you have it ready, you can order from our vast selection online or in-store.
